  • World Malaria Day

April 24th 2021 marks World Malaria Day which aims to raise awareness of the devastating effects of Malaria and what can be done to help those who are either vulnerable or affected by the disease.

Malaria is preventable and treatable and yet remains a serious threat for those who have no means to protect themselves or no access to medical treatment. These facts are taken from the World Health Organisation and the Against Malaria Foundation and are truly shocking:

Malaria kills around 400,000 people a year

70% of Malaria deaths are children under 5

Malaria is the world's single largest killer of pregnant women

90% of the deaths are in sub-Saharan Africa

Yet malaria is totally preventable and treatable. Nobody needs to die.

The most effective means of prevention is sleeping under a mosquito net

    Each net costs just £1.50

GardenistaUK.com have made a donation to The Against Malaria Foundation to aid their efforts to provide and install mosquito nets wherever they are needed. Find out more about their work here.

  • World Refugee Day

There’s nowhere like home – It’s where you should feel safe and loved. For millions of people across the globe, home is anything but safe.

Having to up and leave for the safety of you and your family is a heartbreaking reality for those who live in war zones or experience political unrest, discrimination or famine.

Refugee Action is a UK based charity helping those who need it most. Imagine what it’s like to flee your home in fear. To arrive in a new country with nothing but your life.

You’ve survived. But how will you live?

At Refugee Action, they help refugees who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. They get them the basic support they need to live again with dignity. They then help them build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK.

Their vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK. They will get justice, live free of poverty and be able to successfully rebuild their lives.
